A loft conversion usually needs building regulations approval and may fall under permitted development (Class B). The checklist pulls the main points together.
Who it is for
It is written for homeowners, designers and small builders working on house extensions and loft conversions in England, to check the planning route and keep building control steps on track. It does not replace advice from your local authority.
How to use it
Work through structure, fire safety and means of escape, stairs, insulation and ventilation. Record status and evidence for each item and check the permitted development position.
