The payment rules in Part II of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 apply to most construction contracts. This guide sets them out in plain English for subcontractors, with a timeline showing how the dates fit together.
Who it is for
It is written for subcontractors and specialist trades who need to apply for payment on time, record changes as they happen and protect their payment rights under the Construction Act, whatever form of subcontract they have signed.
How to use it
Read the guide alongside your subcontract. It walks through the due date, payment notices, default notices, pay less notices, the final date for payment and suspension, and shows where the Scheme for Construction Contracts fills gaps. Statements of law are facts only, from public sources.
