Instructions arrive from several directions: the architect or contract administrator, the employer's agent, people on site and formal change requests. Keeping them in one register shows what has been instructed, what it might cost and what is still waiting for confirmation.
Who it is for
It is written for quantity surveyors, commercial managers and contractors running JCT projects who want a consistent, auditable paper trail from first valuation to final account, without building their own spreadsheets and letters from scratch on every job.
How to use it
Add a row for each instruction with its type, date, issuer and description. Record its status and likely cost effect. The register counts the days each item has been open and summarises instructions by type and status, which helps at progress and commercial meetings.
